The picture is taken at the 90’s cheese party in Philadelphia in October 2014. It was one of the big surprises of grad school when one of the prospective students who were visiting Penn started speaking Icelandic out of nowhere. That was Guðrún. Subsequently we did phonology class together where 3 out of 8 students were native speakers of Icelandic. That is probably a rare setup in a linguistics program in the USA. It was a happy setup.
