NP-OB2 with certain cognate object verbs

Cognate objects are usually parsed as NP-OB1. Examples are segja sögu, drekka drykk (þorstadrykk), sjá sýn.

There are, however, a few exceptions to this.

Verbs like HJÁLPA 'help' and BIÐJA (BÆNAR) 'pray' (and a few others) are treated as taking an NP-OB2, that is, the superficial object is NP-OB2 because these are treated as taking an abstract NP-OB1. See further details in PPCEME.

Other superficial objects of cognate object verbs are treated as NP-OB1.
