SEM

When SEM introduces CP-ADV, there is no PP level above the CP-ADV. There is always a gap in a "sem" CP-ADV. See also the discussion in CP-CMP, where the distinction between CP-ADV and CP-CMP is discussed at length, as well as the status of SEM. Note that "sem" CP-ADVs may also contin elided material that is not represented in the annotation, as in comparative clauses; see the discussion of elided material there: CP-CMP.

This is not exactly like the English corpora, PPCME2, PPCEME, etc. SEM simply occupies the C position of a CP-ADV, and the CP-ADV is immediately dominated by the phrase that it modifies, as in the following example:

When ER introduces an adverbial clause (these are usually temporal), the clause is parsed as a bare CP-ADV with ER in the C position.
