We use three different dash tags for ADVPs, -DIR(ectional), -LOC(acative) and -TeMPoral.
ADVP-DIR - þangað 'there (to)'
ADVP-LOC - inni 'inside', úti 'outside', hér 'here', þar there'
Note that most counterparts of ADVP-LOC such as inni, úti, i.e. inn, út, are tagged RP
ADVP-TMP - alltaf 'always', nú 'now', þá 'then'

WADV - wh-adverb, hvar 'where', hvernig 'how', hví 'why'
Complements of ADV
The adjective "nærri" is tagged and parsed in the same way as "near" or "nearly" in the PPCEME, PPCME2, depending on its meaning (see Treatment of individual words ). When "nærri" means "nearly", as in "it was nearly nighttime when they reached the town", it is tagged/parsed as an ADV, and projects an ADVP as shown below. If there is a dative pronoun, it is parsed as the NP complement of ADV; this is one of the few cases in which there is an NP complement of ADV, and it is the only way in which the treatment of "nærri" differs from the treatment of "nearly" in the PPCME2, PPCEME, since the construction containing a dative pronoun does not occur in English.

The dative pronoun (því) is optional.

When "nærri" means "near", as in "they were sailing near land", it is tagged "ADJ", projects an ADJP-LOC where ADJ has an NP complement; see ADJP#Complements_of_ADJ
Complements of ADV which projects ADVP-TMP
Snemma dags
NP-MSR inside ADVP
This follows the PPCEME, PPCME2. Note that "annars dags" below is an NP-MSR, not an NP-POS or an NP-TMP.
(ADVP-TMP (NP-MSR (OTHER-G annars-annar) (N-G dags-dagur)) (ADV eftir-eftir))
ADVP idominating two ADVs
ADVP usually does not idominate RP
Phrases like "þar inn" are sometimes ambiguous between forming one constituent (PP inn idominating ADVP þar) or are both attached high. These are usually *not* parsed as (ADVP (ADV þar) (RP inn)).
Sometimes particles modify adverbs:
