Brain-Typing Interface

"Why bother to type a document using a keyboard when you can write it by simply thinking about the letters you need to type?"

"A brain wave study presented at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Epilepsy Society shows that people with electrodes in their brains can “type” (input data into a computer) using just their minds."

"Dr. Shih’s patients at the Mayo Clinic were asked to look at a computer screen containing a 6-by-6 matrix with a single alphanumeric character inside each square. Every time the square with a certain letter flashed, the patient focused on it and a computer application recorded the brain's response to the flashing letter. The computer software calibrated the system with the individual patient's specific brain wave patterns. When the patient then focused on a letter, the letter appeared on the screen."

"An experimental system is letting a paralyzed man turn his thoughts into the beginnings of real-time speech, according to researchers."

"Ramsey is completely paralyzed and currently able to communicate only by blinking his eyes. But researchers at Boston University have implanted an electrode into his brain that lets him convert his thoughts into vowel sounds produced by a voice synthesizer, according to a paper published December 9 in the online journal PLoS ONE."

Bella Coola / Nuxalk

Print
Einhvern tíma þegar ég pældi í atkvæðum og atkvæðaskipun rakst ég á hið yndislega indíánamál Bello Coola / Nuxalk, en þar tíðkast það mjög að nota orð sem ekki eru í nein sérhljóð, sem flækir auðvitað málið fyrir atkvæðafræðinginn. Svo skemmtilega vill til að ég var minntur á kynni mín af þessu máli rétt í þessu þegar ég rakst á nokkrar glósur. Fólk getur spreytt sig á að bera eftirfarandi fram ef það fýsir að togna í talfærunum:

q'lstsw = rope
qhlm = black cod
q'hlp = balsam fir
stshlh = afterbirth
stsnts = transsexual / hermaphrodite
sk'l = cold
stqw = mud
tl'xwtsn = onion(s)
xhlsxtss = he dislikes me
k'tstx = look at him!
sk'ts = disease, illness

Steven Pinker um ofbeldi

Print
Áhugaverð pæling um að heimurinn hafi aldrei verið eins lítið vondur og hann er nú ef mælt er út frá ofbeldi.
