Dative measure phrases modifying ADJs and ADVs
In the examples below, only the dative projects NP-MSR modifying either adverbs or adjectives (since those don't measure anything).
The ADJs of the following type of ADJPs are modified by a (bold) dative NP-MSR, see also NP-CMP when meaning is comparative:
- skömmu síðar (whole thing is ADVP-TMP)*
The following datives (bold) project an NP-MSR that modifies ADJP
- þeim mun verri
- miklu skemmtilegri
- sýnu betri
- því betri
(IP-SUB (NEG eigi-ekki) (MDPS muni-munu) (NP-SBJ (PRO-N hún-hún)) (NP-OB2 (PRO-A oss-ég)) (ADJP (NP-MSR (D-D því-það)) (ADJR-N betri-góður) (NP (N-G áheits-áheit)) (PP (P en-en) (CP-CMP (WADJP-3 0) (C 0) (IP-SUB (ADJP *T*-3) (NP-SBJ (OTHERS-N aðrir-annar)))))

"Einn dag í einu" is measure phrases of time. "Allt í einu" contains a measure phrase within it, but is a PP at the highest level (though there may be some inconsistency about "allt í einu" in the corpus):

Freqently the dative pronoun "því" can constitute an NP-MSR. This occurs, among other places, in the idiom "því miður" (= unfortunately):
(ADVP (NP-MSR (PRO-D því-það)) (ADVR miður-miður))

LANGUR can project an NP-MSR, which in turn projects an ADJP, as in the following example:
