Dative measure phrases modifying ADJs and ADVs

In the examples below, only the dative projects NP-MSR modifying either adverbs or adjectives (since those don't measure anything).

The ADJs of the following type of ADJPs are modified by a (bold) dative NP-MSR, see also NP-CMP when meaning is comparative:

  • skömmu síðar (whole thing is ADVP-TMP)*

The following datives (bold) project an NP-MSR that modifies ADJP

  • þeim mun verri
  • miklu skemmtilegri
  • sýnu betri
  • því betri

Freqently the dative pronoun "því" can constitute an NP-MSR. This occurs, among other places, in the idiom "því miður" (= unfortunately):
