When SEM introduces CP-ADV, there is no PP level above the CP-ADV. There is always a gap in a "sem" CP-ADV. See also the discussion in CP-CMP, where the distinction between CP-ADV and CP-CMP is discussed at length, as well as the status of SEM. Note that "sem" CP-ADVs may also contin elided material that is not represented in the annotation, as in comparative clauses; see the discussion of elided material there: CP-CMP.
This is not exactly like the English corpora, PPCME2, PPCEME, etc. SEM simply occupies the C position of a CP-ADV, and the CP-ADV is immediately dominated by the phrase that it modifies, as in the following example:
SEM VON VAR
( (IP-MAT (NP-SBJ (N-N Jóan-jóan)) (VBDI magnaðist-magna) (ADVP-TMP (ADV síðan-síðan)) (, ,-,) (CP-ADV (WADVP-2 0) (C sem-sem) (IP-SUB (ADVP *T*-2) (NP-SBJ *exp*) (NP-PRD (N-N von-von)) (BEDI var-vera) (PP (P of-of) (NP (D-A þann-sá) (, ,-,) (CP-REL (WNP-1 0) (C ER-ER) (IP-SUB (NP-OB1 *T*-1) (NP-SBJ (D-N INN-HINN) (ADJ-N helgi-helgi) (N-N andi-andi)) (VBDI stýrði-stýra))))))) (, ,-,)

When other subordinators introduce adverbial clauses, e.g. EF or ÞEGAR, the subordinator is tagged P, it projects a PP and takes a CP-ADV complement, as in the following examples:
(PP (P þegar-þegar) (CP-ADV (C 0) (IP-SUB (NP-SBJ (NS-N skuggamyndir$-skuggamynd) (D $nar-hinn)) (BEPI eru-vera) (IP-INF (TO að-að) (VB þokast-þoka) (PP (P undan-undan) (NP (N-D sólarbirtu$-sólarbirta) (D $nni-hinn))))))))
( (IP-MAT (ADVP (ADV Nú-nú)) (PP (P þótt-þótt) (CP-ADV (C 0) (IP-SUB (NP-SBJ (NS-N menn-maður) (CP-REL *ICH*-1)) (BEPS séu-vera) (ADJP (ADJ VÆNIR-VÆNN)) (, ,-,) (CP-REL-1 (WNP-2 0) (C sem-sem) (IP-SUB (NP-OB1 (N-A hlut-hlutur)) (VBPI eiga-eiga) (PP (P að-að) (NP (NS-D málum-mál)))))))) (, ,-,) (MDPI má-mega) (NP-SBJ-2 (PRO-N ÞAÐ-ÞAÐ)) (NP-PRD (Q-NSNSP margt-margur)) (VB verða-verða) (PP (P í-í) (NP (NS-D sveitarsökum-sveitarsök))) (, ,-,)
When ER introduces an adverbial clause (these are usually temporal), the clause is parsed as a bare CP-ADV with ER in the C position. There is no introducing P in this case, nor any PP level, as in the example below. See also ER under Treatment of individual words. These may or may not contain a gap.
