Þótt að is a possible context for the subjunctive in modern icelandic, so we tag the verb as subjunctive by default, including when it is ambiguous between indicative and subjunctive. In Modern Icelandic the verb may be unambigously indicative, in which case we tag it like that. In general, if an embedded context can potentially take a subjunctive verb in modern Icelandic (even if the indicative is also common in the modern language), we tag verb forms as subjunctive by default in cases where the form is ambiguous.

ÞÓTT 'while, although' and ÞÓTT AÐ 'while that, although that' introduce an adverbial clause. Tag ÞÓTT as P and AÐ as C:

( (IP-MAT (ADVP (ADV Nú-nú))
	  (PP (P þótt-þótt)
	      (CP-ADV (C 0)
		      (IP-SUB (NP-SBJ (NS-N menn-maður)
				      (CP-REL *ICH*-1))
			      (BEPS séu-vera)
			      (ADJP (ADJ-N vænir-vænn))
			      (, ,-,)
			      (CP-REL-1 (WNP-2 0)
					(C sem-sem)
					(IP-SUB (NP-SBJ *T*-2)
						(NP-OB1 (N-A hlut-hlutur))
						(VBPI eiga-eiga)
						(PP (P að-að)
						    (NP (NS-D málum-mál))))))))

Same sentence as above, but now the AÐ-version

( (IP-MAT (ADVP (ADV Nú-nú))
	  (PP (P þótt-þótt)
	      (CP-ADV (C að)
		      (IP-SUB (NP-SBJ (NS-N menn-maður)
				      (CP-REL *ICH*-1))
			      (BEPS séu-vera)
			      (ADJP (ADJ-N vænir-vænn))
			      (, ,-,)
			      (CP-REL-1 (WNP-2 0)
					(C sem-sem)
					(IP-SUB (NP-SBJ *T*-2)
						(NP-OB1 (N-A hlut-hlutur))
						(VBPI eiga-eiga)
						(PP (P að-að)
						    (NP (NS-D málum-mál))))))))
